Winter, SAD and self-care
It's cold, it's raining, we have to turn the lights on at 4pm
and we don't feel like doing anything other than snuggle under a blanket and stuff our faces with comfort food...
so how do we combine self-care and winter?
Here are some quick ideas for you that work well with my clients:
- Plan your week in advance, especially your workouts, and follow the plan Don't leave it to chance, or worse... to your mood. Your motivation will likely take a dip when it's cold and dark, so don't rely on it.
- Get some sunlight when you can If you're anything like me, the darkness is terrible for your mental health. So get outside when the sun is out, and/or buy a Light Therapy lamp. I'm not sure how, but they work.
- Get some movement in first thing in the morning It's even more important when you can't count on the sun to energise you. I obviously love yoga for this because: - you don't need to go outside - it's gentle but energising - AND you can do it without leaving your PJs!
- Winter is also a great time for introspection. We can hibernate with the aim to come out in the spring with fresh ideas 🌱 Why not take this chance to start routines like meditation, breathing exercises, journaling...? It's also the perfect time to reflect on 2023 and start planning next year! If you'd like, I can send you the questions I use to do that, and make sure I start 2024 with the optimal mindset. Reply with "2024" and I'll send them over.
Om, peace 🧡
