A Soft Revolution ☁️
One thing that has become obvious to me over the years is that softness is the answer.
You can’t hate yourself into change.
Science shows self-compassion works better.
We've all been guilty of telling ourselves "Get off the couch, you lazy bitch!" when trying to muster the motivation to exercise, but it's not the most effective strategy long term.
Gradually convincing ourselves that we are actually worthy of doing something good for ourselves, that's the key.
Self-compassion isn't self-indulgence. It's simply doing something your future self will thank you for.
You can’t befriend sleep by force.
Falling asleep is all about surrendering. Relaxing the nervous system enough that it feels safe to leave the body at its more vulnerable: asleep.
Yes, sleeping pills are faster. But they also don't give you a truly restorative sleep.
Making your body and mind feel safe again, thanks to an improved daily routine, that's the key.
You can’t push your body to become more flexible.
It will tense up to protect itself.
If you try to do the splits right now, your body will stop you at some point. If you keep pushing, your muscles will contract to avoid overstretching. If you keep pushing, you're going to hurt yourself.
Flexibility, like many of the good things in life, is gained through consistent practice. Doing the work several times per week, to allow the muscles to feel safe enough to relax and lengthen, that's the key.
A soft but consistent approach.
Baby steps, small wins that keep us engaged and motivated.
All wrapped in a fiercely compassionate attitude towards ourselves.
If that's your vibe too, let me know. Answer these few questions and I'll tell you if I think I can help you :)
Om, peace 🧡
